OE died with XP....but I use it on my XP machine and I use Outlook on my Win 7 machine.
I've never used T-Bird, but apparently its one of the real popular apps. What are the "goofy quirks" you've experienced?
It's not free but I've been using "The Bat" email client for years. I think it's far superior to anything else available. It's kind of similar to Thunderbird in layout and looks.

Very configurable and you can easily set it up for multiple pop or imap accounts. It has auto backup and allows for various antispam and a/v plugins.
Windows Live Mail had issues when forwarding email. Especially photos. Would not attach. Using multiple addresses would not work. Thunderbird does looks like Outlook, but attaching photo's seems to be an issue, there are times when sending a pic, the recipient replies message shows pic, but its blank....
Course, not receive pics can be on the other persons end no matter how you send it.
Also, with Live Mail when sending email with photos I would get " More then one photo could not be found" . So any photo you wanted to send, you had to save to pictures, and select thru gallery as an attachment. Every single photo....To me....... RATHER STUPID,,,
I've also found that forwarding pics or any attachments for that matter is pretty hit and miss. I especially have problems when I forward email to my work computer which is a MAC.
If I have to forward any important work related attachments I create a new email instead.
