AutoPlay
Hi there,
Having some trouble with AutoPlay on my XP Pro sp3 machine. In days of yore (more specifically not so long ago) when I inserted my camera's compact flash card, AutoPaly would start giving me the options of how to open. One of those options was to download using PhotoShop Bridge and the grey window in the lower half would open.
Recently, that is not happening; Instead, AutoPlay fires up and I get the screen shown in the top of the attachment; no download option, just open the folder. To download, I have to start PhotoShop and Bridge and from the Bridge menu, select 'get files from camera' (bottom half of the attachment.)
How do I get back to AutoPlay opening with the open options? I have it selected in the relevant drive properties, but it does not start as I want. I have used the MS fix, but that again, does not start it as it used to.
Grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks
Rex

Have you tried using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a date when your computer was functioning correctly? It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

That's a kind of yes and no answer. I did, but I don't recall when the change happened as I have not wanted to load photos for some time. But SysRestore also means that any changes I have made, (upgrade FireFox / IE8 / and some other programs) also go back to before the upgrade. Or that has always been my understanding.

No, that is correct. So, try a System Restore (back as far as you can go) and then start the updates. Within half an hour or so you should be back in business. A recent backup might even prove quicker ... 10-15 minutes.
