If I want to install the OS from a USB flash drive, will it work if I simply copy the installation source files to the drive? The machine has no CD/DVD drive.

No, you can't just copy the files over.

It's really pretty easy:
- Download the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool and install it.
- Run it, browse to your Windows 7 ISO, click USB or DVD, . . .

I used Midknyte's tut and it worked perfectly. The other thing I had to fix was the boot option. First option was listed as 'USB CD/DVD ROM' - which doesn't mean USB OR DVD, it means a DVD drive that has a USB attachment. The correct option was 'USB HDD.'
Yep. Another way to do it is to set the hard drive as last local option. :)
