VERIZON SUITE REMOVAL

I have inherited this HP Pavillion Laptop with Windows XP Home suite. The person that owned the laptop had Verizon as his Web provider,and had installed Verizon Internet Security Suite, and I would like to remove it. I tried with Add and Remove programs,but keep asking me User name and password,and I do not have it.
I tried with Revo and Iobit uninstallers,but they do not remove it.
This Security suite is interfering when trying to connect to the web,and I definitely would like to remove it,and I welcome any assistance in resolving this problem.

Summary

This document explains how to remove and reinstall Verizon Internet Security Suite using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal (MCPR) tool. This option should only be used after you remove your software through Add/Remove Programs.

IMPORTANT: Running the MCPR (MCPR.exe) also removes Verizon Family Protection. You might have to provide your administrator credentials for this process.


As recommended in the article, I tried to remove it using those two methods,but always ask for the user name and password, which I do not have.
I have never seen anything like it, but I guess that is the reason Verizon and McAffe are not the most popular companies with customer support.

The only other solution,That I could think is to format the hard drive,and reinstall Windows.

Without a username and password there will be no 'clean' way to get rid of the McAfee protection. It's designed that way intentionally so that the malware (malicious software such as viruses, trojans, worms etc.) that it's trying to protect against can't disable its protection.

You could try booting into Safe mode so McAfee won't load (hopefully), then attempt to delete or rename the folder(s) with the words Verizon and/or McAfee in them, (in C:\Program Files). Or if that didn't work, boot from a Linux Live CD/USB so that Verizon/McAfee cannot load and then do the delete or rename. Of course once you boot back into Windows you're going to get errors that whatever can't be found. So, now begins the process of manually going through registry and trying to cleanup the remains of Verizon and/or McAfee . . . without destroying Windows.

The other, much cleaner approach is as you suggested: Reinstall Windows. The Windows installation routine allows you to: delete whatever partitions are already on the hard drive, recreate one or more new partitions, then format one and install Windows on it.

Thanks again for your kind assistance with this minor problem. After expending sometime trying to remove the stubborn Verizon software, I decided to do a clean Windows XP install, and that solved the problem altogether.

Hi there; The Laptop after brain surgery,reinstalling Windows XP Home with Pro,everything is working fine,except for the DLINK AIR PLUS Wireless card DWL-G360. It was working fine before,but now,I have tried to make it work to not avail. I have tried the drivers from DLINK,but nothing, I have also tried some Atheros drivers and still nothing. I read someplace that the chip could be a Ralink,or an ASUS and I should look for those drivers.When I insert the card in the slot it is recognized as a Network controller,then I try to install the driver and no luck.
I would appreciate anybody with some experience with this issue,let me know how to proceed. The card does not say which version is,therefore I assume it is version 1 or before.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Guys; The Laptop is an HP Pavillion ze1250. Also looking on the back of the DLink AirPlus Card DWLG630,B1, I looked using the FCC ID KA2DWLG650Plus,and it shows 3 different chip manufactures, Texas Instruments,Atheros and Ralink.
I have tried Texas Instruments and no Luck, I am going to keep trying with Atheros and Ralink,but I can not find a good site for either one.Any suggestions?
