Video Clip does not play
I am trying to see and run the video clip at the following website.
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/a...ing-works.aspx
When clicking the link, I am presented with an option to save or open.
Choosing open does not work and I cannot view the video clip.
I am trying to associate the clip's file type with a program.
What program should be associated with a ASX file extension?
-
When I click the link to play the video clip, I get the message:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association.

(WMV 3:30 minutes)
Media play or VLC will ply it. Be patient, took abit for it to download and start playing for me.
-
I just associated it with Windows Meda Player and it still doesn't play.... Even after closing and reopening the browser
-
Try VLC as Train suggested.
-
What's VLC?
Is this a software download?
I would rather find the problem, not download software.

I gave up on media player years ago and switched to VLC. Do not have to chase down codecs and the like.
Where I get it.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
What it supports:

I have never had to chase a Video Codec.
Right-clicking the video link and selecting properties, the ASX extension is shown.
Do I need to associate the WMV file extension with Windows Media Player instead?

What happens if you click the following link in Internet Explorer?
-
I am presented with a window with the following question:
Do you want to allow this website to open a program on your computer?
From: wm.microsoft.com
Program: Windows Media player
Address mms://wm.microsoft.com/ms/Licensing/Microsoft_Open_Value.wmv
And a checked checkbox:
Always ask before opening this type of address
-
Cool. Answer Yes to the question and it should open in your Windows Media Player.
-
I clicked allow (no yes) and the video clip played. Thanks
I wonder if the first clip will play now also?
-
How did this happen? Did you take remote control of my computer and set the association to what it should be ????

The link that Microsoft has on that page you linked us to is http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/l...comparison.asx. Note the ".asx" file extension ... which apparently your computer doesn't know what to do with. That ".asx" link leads to the real ".wmv" file, which is the link I posted ... and which your computer apparently knows how to handle. To set your Windows Media Player to handle .asx files as well, click the Windows 7 Start orb > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Windows Media Player > Set this program as default > OK. Now try your original link once again. (You may need to reboot first).
