Hi
I can download and install windows updates and can restart the computer to configure the updates, but then a problem arises. The computer restarts and it starts to configure the updates but when it gets to 15% it stops and restarts again, it eventually stops the reconfiguration at 15% again and states that it can't reconfigure and will revert.
This is a new laptop and I should appreciate advice on how to configure the updates. I never had this problem with XP or Windows 7.

Try to install couple of updates at a time to find out which one is causing problems.

If you have nVidia graphics on the machine, remove the display driver and try the updates again. Others have had problems with ATI on occasion so you might try the same procedure.

Thank you all for the helpful suggestions which took a long time to work through as I was unable to find some of the items in the list on my computer, such as Nalpeiron Licensing Service, presumably because they are not installed. I did however manage to install some of the 37 updates one at a time, but this was too slow. I then opened Norton 360, Settings, Firewall and blocked all network traffic for 1 hour, this enabled me to download, install and configure the updates. Why did I buy a laptop with Windows 8 I wonder.

It's up to you of course but, you wouldn't be the first to return a Windows 8 computer. ;)
Personally I've been using Windows 8 computer since last October and it's been working perfectly fine.
Microsoft bet the farm on touch with Windows 8. Problem is, a touch-based user interface on top of an operating system primarily designed to be driven by a keyboard and mouse makes little sense. On traditional desktops and notebooks it is a solution looking for a problem to fix. So far it appears that Microsoft's attempt to force touch on everyone is a bet that is not going to pay off.
