Photo Viewer problems
For several days I have received emails from friends to view pics. In the past, I have just clicked on the download link given me and saved it to my desktop where I can check for any virus and I then see the pics whereas now I get get this message: Photo Viewer can't open this photo because Photo Viewer does not support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer. I am not having success in getting whatever updates there are that may be available.
I can see the pics if I choose to view them on line but that is not my preferred way to see them. Can anyone help me out with this problem. As usual, TIA.

What file extension do these latest images have?

Hi jdc and thanks for posting back. I was just coming back here to say that I left out an important part of my thread. Some words to the effect that the viewer does not support the type file(s) I am opening. AND with your prompting, these appear to be PPS. I think I recall that the free version of PPS for windows 7 is 7. The thought just occurs to me that since my recent problems with Boot Disk, I may no longer have PPS installed.

.pps files are PowerPoint files. Microsoft has a free viewer for those:

Thanks for the link but I haven't been able to get it to work--yet. Control shows it installed but it is not listed in my programs. I deleted it and then downloaded and installed it again and I still get the message that I first showed above.

While you are working on the file association issue for .pps files (dneilson's link), what thappens when you run the PowerPoint viewer and then select the file from that program?

Thanks yet again jdc and the message I get is the same as the one first reported; namely: Photo Viewer can't open this photo because Photo Viewer does not support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer. I can see the pics if I choose to view them on line so that isn't a problem but I would rather have the PPS feature.

PHP Code:
or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer.
Have you verified that you have the latest updates?

I thought I had but then again I still have a non-functioning Photo Viewer. Thanks for your continued interest and help.

Photo Viewer is not designed to open .pps files. You need PowerPoint Viewer.

Download the file. Do not try to open the file now.
Open power point viewer and navigate to the file. Select it and if it is a .pps , it will open and play.
I have gotten a few that were partially corrupted, but was able to save them using power point and correction the error on most of them.

And for other pix. instead of Photo Viewer, download Irfanview, which supports 200 file formats, including sound files. It's free and easy to use.

Thanks foxy but no thanks. I used Irfanview years ago and liked it then. I just looked at this ap and it's only confusion to me now. PPS is being a pain but I won't worry about it.
