Can Not install Java on Win7 - No measage

I am trying to install Java 32 bit (I am running a 32 bit Windows Explorer in WIN7). I have downloaded it and when I run it nothing happens (no message, nothing). So I have tried the following:

First I tried to run it as administrator (even though I am the administrator), same thing happened; nothing.
I then looked for Java in the control panel - not there.
I then looked for Java in programs - not there.
I disabled all shields in Avast and stoped it for 1 hour and tried again - nothing.
I then stopped ZoneAlarm and tried again - nothing.
I then exited SuperAntiSyware and tried again - nothing.

What have I missed to get Java installed please?

Which version of Java are you installing? JRE or JDK?
Version 7 has had some security issues, so it may be better to use 6 instead.

Did you download the OFFLINE installer?

I am using the latest version 7 update 11 from http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp. I have also tried the offline installer.

Did you look at task manager after you start the installer?

Thank you for your help. I just tried version 6 and looked at task manager after I started the installer. Nothing happened again and there was no sign of Java in the task manager.

Did you have Java installed before? If so, did you completely remove it with JavaRa?

Did you look in Event Viewer for errors?

If you had Java installed before, you might want to run the JavaMSIFix before you can install it again.

I tried to run this software and neither would run. So there seams to be a much bigger issue here than just Java. It seams to be any .exe file will not run.

you could try a system restore to a previous point also.

I would normally run Malwarebytes to scan for spyware, but you can't do that if you can't run .exe files.

I found the answer here (and it worked):

1. Click on the link for the file extension in the list below the blue NOTE box below that you would like to restore the default associations of. This will download it's .reg file.

2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

3. Right click on the downloaded .reg file, and click on Merge.
NOTE: If you wish to see what changes will be made by the REG file, then you can right click on the extracted REG file and click on Edit to see the default registry entries that will be added. REG files are just text files. The "Edit" function just opens them in Notepad.
Tip
If you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.

4. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK.
NOTE: If you are logged in a standard user account, then you will get a Cannot import type error. Just click on OK for it. This is normal since what cannot be imported can only be done so by an administrator account instead. It will still restore the default association of the file extension though.

5. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .zip or .reg files on the desktop if you like.

6. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.

Cool. Thanks for posting the fix. :)

Oh and one more thing. Yes, running MalwareBytes is the next thing I will do (I have already run all my other antivirus, etc).
