This is a free ap from Paragon. I installed it and tried for a backup last night. After checking the integrity of the saved files/foldrs, I was greeted with 50+ files similar to these. I have not had a response from Paragon concerning this matter. Are any of you familiar with files of this type?? I have never seen files like this before. As usual, TIA.
Are those the after the backup files?
Where are they located?

Are the backup files somewhere else on the external or are the files in the pic about the backup files.
Did you check the properties of the external to see if its FAT32?
Did you ever move your data off and shrink the boot partition?

Like I said, I don't think Acronis (or Paragon now) is the problem. Your boot partition is too big.
It's possible that you set Paragon to split the backup into DVD sized chunks. FAT32 could also be an issue, as the others have stated.
I agree with the above opinions. They have to be the image split into 4 GB chunks. As Midknyte notes, that makes each piece DVD or FAT32 friendly/compatible. Pretty standard from the programs I've tested.
Thanks for the replies but I have to say that I knowingly did not split or alter or anything in trying for the backup. I know nothing about the size of the boot partition. I have made many successful backups using Acronis and used various versions since 2006 and never ever had the difficulties with making a good backup as I have had recently. I validated most of the backups and I have used some of them at various times to reinstall some of the backups. I am considering just starting over with an install of Windows 7 by using the CDs I made when first acquiring my Compq. My problems have been happening far too long now and I have troubled you good people long enough. Using thumb/flash drives, I have copied My Documents, Programs 32 bit and 64 bit and my personal downloads. I don't look forward to all that work but I can't think of any better way to rid myself of these problems.
Please feel free to add any comments you care to make. I do have a long running thread in another of our forums dealing with bad backups while using Acronis Home 2010 but I could not find it to show the link in this reply.
Buf - open up Paragon and look through the settings.. Maybe the default is to backup to DVD... You'd want to change it to backup to another hard drive.

Steve I just realized that I did not reply to your last question. I checked and the default for Paragon settings for a backup is blank or un-checked. And I use my 64 bit external hard drive for backup for all on my attempted backups.
I don't seem to be using sound logic in setting up correctly for a full backup of my computer at the beginning. If I were setting it up correctly, my internal hard drive would not be filling up. Instead of saving the backup to the external, it is saving it to the C: drive. Guess I need the steps I should take numbered--like 1, 2, 3; etc. I just seem to have a mental block in this regard. I have used Acronis for so long, I prefer to continue using it and not these other freebie aps.
EDIT: If my boot disk is too big or whatever, I will gladly accept help in making a new one.
Midknyte can/will you help me with boot disk that you say is too big. Could it be that is a major problem and contributing to my overall problem(s). I was going to work on the partition problem tonight but 'other' things kept getting in the way. Many thanks and BTW, you mentioned this in post #6. I do not have a windows 7 disk.
YES. Your backups are enormous. I don't think it matters which backup app you use.Quote:

As I said in the other thread, move your data to an external drive first. Then you can shrink the boot partition. Create a new partition from the extra space. copy your data back to the new partition.
Please go through the other thread again. I already posted links to Easeus. You don't need the Win7 disc to repartition.
How did you install Win7 without the DVD? If this is an OEM system (HP, Sony, etc), then it should have included a Restore Media creator.
OK !!! I think I have the data I want to save saved to an extra external HD and I seem to remember it was 21 gigs. Just hope I have saved everything I want to keep before I attempt to shrink the boot partition and create a new partition for the data material.
I downloaded the latest Easeus freebie. I thought I read that the OS installation CD is needed to repair the boot disk. Anyway, I have the System Recovery Disks(I burned 3 DVDs when I first got this Compaq).
Think I'll work on the new partition tomorrow and if I am successful, I'll be posting back with a happy face.

Two things. In my haste to copy the data I want to be sure to save before repartitioning the internal hard drive, I mistakenly copied them to the extra ext. hd. Does that present a problem after I have the new partittion? I made the mistake in having both external hd side my side on my desk.
Second thing. If my boot disk is wrong(too big), then shouldn't it be corrected before I attempt any of this? I can not make a good usable backup. Guess I am asking; which should come first !! (I don't think I would feel any more lost even if I was driving around Paris and could only speak "pig Latin" while asking for directions".
