Java Error Message at Startup

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this problem. If not please redirect me. Thanks.

With all of the reported problems with Java I thought I should uninstall it from my laptop, which I did with Revo Uninstaller, but I now get an error message during startup saying, “Unable to locate suitable Java Runtime Environment on this machine.”

I ran CCleaner but still get the same result. I’ve reinstalled and uninstalled several times using both Revo and the Control Panel programs uninstall, but still get the same error message.

Can anyone suggest how to get rid of this annoying message?

You can take a look through the registry and delete references to Java.

Are you sure you don't have any programs that use Java JRE?

Run msconfig and see what programs are running at startup.

My sincere apologies! I said this problem was on my XP machine when in fact it's on my Win7 machine. So perhaps my thread needs to be moved. Sorry!

In response to your comments; I don't know which programs use Java.

Regarding the registry, I'm not sure where to look, but did see an entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/JAVASOFT. This shows keys for Java Update and Prefs. Both show Default, REG_SZ, (value not set).

Could this be the problem, or do I need to look somewhere else? I'm a bit wary of just deleting them in case I wreck something.

If Java Runtime has been removed,
Even that "JAVASOFT" key/folder should not exist.

Unless you were having problems, I suggest you should have Java installed.
That startup message is because Windows agrees. Windows may have determined for you that an installed program requires Java to run properly.
So reinstall Java.
