[RESOLVED] Upgrade offer from MS

I am just wondering what the thoughts are about the $15 upgrade and how people are responding to the offer for Windows8 Pro. I also qualify for this offer but haven't yet dedided if I want it or not. $15 is not a big waste of money and there is a possiblity that I may even use it; just depends on how some of the smarter ones think about it. A very real problem would exist for me IF I should upgrade--I do not have the Win7 install disk should I decide to go back. I do not want to go back to day one and start over with Win7. Yes, I have Acronis but I still would want to have to resort to it.

If you do not want to go back to day 1 of win7, then you know that your only choice is to image your c:\ drive with, either Acronis or the win7 backup tool. I you do not want to have to image your drive, then just don't install win8 and you don't have to do anything.

Me, I'm going to get windows 8, but, it's going to be with a tablet.

Thanks for your reply. I do have a complete backup of Win7 to use , if I have to. I'm just not sure at this time what I will do with Win8. I know I'll buy it just in case I decide to try it. One never knows about the unknown but it is good to have a workable backup plan. I have to wonder if many people are responding to the MS offer. Also, have to wonder why such a low price. Not complaining mind you.

Low price is because they buchered 8 and know most of us probably will have nothing to do with it.

Well, windows 8 is not a multitasking o/s, apps in the background are idle doing nothing. SO, windows 8 won't replace windows 7. I'm pretty sure that windows 8 will be sold alongside windows 7.

Doubt that many are making use of the offer.
The enterprise clients are very likely out of the picture so Microsoft is more or less limited to home consumers.

Figures should be released in the near future about actual numbers by some business analysts or such...

buf--The $15 upgrade is available only to those who bought a Win7 PC from Jun 2, 2012 through January 31 2013. The offer is $40 for those who bought Win 7, Vista, or XP before that.

Yes I knew the period of time for those eligible to buy Win8 for $15 and my netbook purchase on August 22, 2012 made me eligible.
Thanks for your reply Jim. IF I buy it, it will be mainly to "play" with in the beginning and while deciding if it is any good. I would want to burn it to a DVD for future use, if possible. Already, there are those that are 'crossing it off'.

Have just read your post of 10-10 Doc re. Win8. I don't think I would be anxious to reinstall Win7; especially since I don't have the install CD--my PC came with Win7 already installed. I would not even care to use an Acronis backup!! Thanks just the same my friend.

Install it in a virtual machine.

OK Jim, I now have my burned ISO CD for Win7--now what do I do with it coach.? I know nothing about an ISO and do not recall ever using one; not to mention having one. I used Acronis Home 2012 and created a backup of partitions and disks last night. I feel a bit uneasy abou the backup because it took far more than 2 hours to make the 192GB backup.

? It can be used/treated like any standard Windows 7 disc.

Many thanks Shinma for your clarification. Never knew that would be so simple--just add my product number for my Win 7 and I'll have a Win 7 installation disk.
