Millisecond Mouse action
Sometimes "(many times) when clicking an arrow in Device Manager that is suppose to show a sub menu item the sub menu item is shown for a millisecond then disappears again and I must keep trying to single left click it to see the sub menu. What's up with this ? ? I tried adjusting the mouse settings without any luck correcting this.

Did you try a different mouse?
Did you try using the arrow keys? left and right to expand the menu, up and down to choose the device.

I found the problem....
In the mouse settings on the Pointers tab...it was set to allow themes to change the pointer actions. Once I changed that all was back to normal. At last I can control the computer again

Update, to my post above:
Well, I thought I corrected it but it only reduced the amount of times it happens.
This is really annoying.....Why is the tail wagging the dog here? I am using a Dell external USB optical mouse.

As Midknyte asked in Post #2-----Did you try a different mouse?
-
No, I have not tried a different mouse.
The mouse seems OK when doing other stuff.
It's as if the computer is interpreting a single click as a double click.
I plugged the mouse into a different USB port...same problem.
-
I agree with Midknyte and dneilson, I'd try a different mouse first. (I actually have two plugged in right now anyway).
You night also want to check your double-click speed:- Click Start > Control Panel and at the top right, change the "View by: to "Small icons".
- Click "Mouse", the "Activities" tab, then check/test/reset your Double-click speed.
-
I cannot change the view to small icons, the choice is greyed out.
The mouse settings when I select mouse after Control Panel do not include an "Activities" tab.
However I found the double click speed and tried slowing the double click speed for both the built in touch pad and the external USB mouse.
Will let you know....
Nope.... These adjustments didn't help.
I will try the option for completely disabling the touch pad when the external mouse is connected next and let you know.

That didn't work either, and so then I tried updating the mouse driver...that didn't work either.
When the mouse is over the text in device manager, double clicking should show the sub menu for the category of device.
When the mouse is on the small arrow or triangle to the left, single clicking the arrow should show the sub menu.
In my case, these two things are not consistent...sometimes a single click over the text shows the sub menu.

Have you tried another mouse yet?
