Shutdown

Hi,
Usually I shutdown the comp by pressing the button
at the top of my comp.
Next day when I switch on, it takes about 10 mins to reboot
and be ready for use.

Today I used the button top left on my keyboard,
it seemed to shut down the comp in the usual way, it went very quiet, no hum or anything.

I switched it back on 2 hours later with the same keyboard button and it came back in about 40 seconds, with the windows there just as I left off .

I m wondering, is it worth doing it this way in future ? its kind of putting the comp in hold, not a full shut down.

Are there any disadvantages ?... like, could it be burning elec
in that mode ?

Sounds like you put your system into Standby or Hibernate instead of doing an actual shutdown.

By shutting down and turning all the computer stuff off, I save enough money to buy a month's supply of Groceries and 2 trips to a restaurant in a year.
Xp, Start, shutdown, shutdown.

With just reaching up and using the button like, well I have had to tell many a person to do a clean install because they used it to shutdown. Shutting the power off, worse yet.

There is a CyberPower 1500PFCLCD UPS sitting next to a computer here on the desk. Connected to this UPS are a desktop computer, two monitors, a 3-piece speaker set and a 5-port gigabit switch. The LCD on the UPS says the current output is 198 watts. Press the little button on the keyboard with the little sliver of a moon on it (Sleep) and within about 3 seconds you can hear the hard drive spinning down, the monitors then go blank, the computer fans go silent and the UPS LCD is now reading _0_ (zero) watts.

Yep, works for me, (on some of my computers).

My newest desktop pc goes from sleep to back live on the 'net in roughly 7 seconds. From completely powered off to viewing Google News in IE takes it 38 seconds. Love it. :)

Ive been on the net for 12 years, how come I did nt
think of this before now ?

Don't forget to reboot once in a while. Clears the cobwebs out of RAM. :)
