Have sony laptop and at first boot says
SMART failure predicted on hard disk
backup and replace hard disk.
failure may be imminent
Then when get into windows 7 another warning comes up and says
Windows detected hard disk failure
The system seems to be running ok ,a little sluggish. I am told this laptop is a little over a year old. I ran rkill and combo fix and also malware to see if something bad was causing this but still getting error.
The warnings say it all. Immediately back up everything you don't want to lose and replace that hard drive.
I agree, the hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
If you'd like another opinion, run the appropriate manufacturer's Hard Disk Diagnostic utility. Most can be found on the UBCD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Note that generally speaking, laptop hard drives sustain more abuse than those mounted in a desktop.

for some reason I keep getting burning error when trying to burn the iso for Ultimate boot cd

ran a benchmark tool in ubcd and said there is probibly an active virus in memory

ok backed everything up and did a system restore boot diskm now it sees the system restore file and then when to try to restore getting a fail msg,,got new hd in the machine and just want to restore the image but not working
I boot off the recovery disk I made from windows 7 and then go to system image and then it pukes.. it sees it ,the last disk but then what it says it failed
Just to be clear, you are talking about a system image made from Control Panel>Backup & Restore here aren't you?

Yes did the system image and recue boot disk out of windows. There was a code but cannot access it att. I think my prob was that there was no o/s on the new hard drive . I assumed that the image disk would do that for me. So I am installing windows 7 back on and see if that works. Now when restoring I put the last disk in first for the system to see it right? Then do I put in disk 1 after that?
