Logon Process Has Failed to Create the Security Options Dialog
Earlier, I was watching a video on youtube, when I noticed the video stopped playing. I assumed the video was simply buffering until I noticed a message in Internet Explorer saying "youtube.com has stopped responding". I was able to open my favorites and navigate back to the main youtube page. Then I see a message from Windows saying youtube.com has stopped responding. Before I bothered with the Windows notification, I went to Control Panel to check Problem Reports and Solutions. Though thinking about it now, nothing would have been listed there for this freeze before doing anything with the Windows notification. Anyhoo, before I could get to that section of the Control Panel, it seemed to also stop responding. So I pressed ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager. Shortly after, the screen went black. After a few minutes, the logon ui came up, minus the options that are usually there after pressing ctrl+alt+del(i.e. Lock this computer, switch user, log off, etc.). Though, there was a message that read:
Logon Process Has Failed to Create the Security Options Dialog
Failure - Security Options
I closed the message and saw another message that said "Please Wait". Shortly after that I could see the desktop as usual. I then was able to bring up the task manager and saw that IE was using an excessive amount of memory and the CPU usage was considerably high, around 85%, IIRC. Anyhoo, does anyone know what may have caused that error message? It seems to be a pretty common problem, judging from my Yahoo and Google searches. From what I've read, it seems to be accompanied by a program locking up or becoming unrepsonsive and then attempting to bring up the task manager. I've read that it may also have to do with various AV programs or Western Digital harddrives. If this helps any, I'm running AVG 2012, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, Internet Explorer 9 and I do have a western digital harddrive.
