Slow/No Connection
I initially posted it in "Internet related issues". It sat there for a few days with almost no response. Probably, my choice was wrong - actually my issue is not related to Internet; rather it's about Internet connection. Here it is:
<<<<<<<<<<<The main problem: out of two PCs, the old one (WinXP) lost its Internet connection, as it appears to me, after I uninstalled COMODO Internet Security. I System Restored the PC to an earlier date and COMODO and Internet connections were restored. Yet, same day later "page cannot be found" popped up again. It is NOT a modem, a router or cable problem: the other PC (Win7) is Okay. The old one has no Internet when connected to the same router or directly to the modem. I reset (I hope, correctly) the Network (no Network now, I exchange files, etc. between the PCs though external HD), released and renewed the IP address and even used Windows repair feature - it informs me that "Windows repaired the problem, please try again".
The latter is part of the minor problem: Windows "think" that there is no problem: it "repaired whatever successfully, clicking the Systray connectivity icon (which always displays 100MB/s speed) System shows that the PC sends packets (although very-very slow!) and even receives packets, even slower. So slow that no page can be downloaded.
Checking for infections with Malware Bytes, S&D, Spyware Blaster was negative, COMODO informs me that there are no threats; I cannot run a scan as it asks me to "select an item" (no items are displayed in the blank window!) to launch a scan".
What else can I do? I even replaced the connection cable, more than once! And the other PC has no problems whatsoever, with any cable.>>>>>>>>>>

As I mentioned in that post, your System Restore likely did NOT restore Comodo. Instead, it partially restored it, which is why you cannot update it or configure it properly, since some of the files it needs are missing. That is also quite probably why your internet connection is not working properly. You either need to completely remove Comodo and then reinstall it or find another way to restore full functionality to it.

Thank you, jdc2000!
This time I uninstalled COMODO and all other programs which need Internet access to function properly as well as all anti-... programs. IF I ever fix the connectivity, I reinstall whatever.
Cleaning the PC resulted in some increase in sendind and receiving packets; there are still more Sent that Received and apparently the speed is still slow to display any page. In IE I clicked Tools>Diagnose Connection Problems. Below is the log and the initial response:
Windows cannot troubleshoot your network connection because an error has occurred. Please try again.

See if anything else is installing - Check the Reliability Monitor -
START | type perfmon /REL
You'll find a day-by-day scorecard of program installs, Windows Updates, etc... and the results (success or failure)
-
Thank you, Train!
I ran the RM in Win7 - this is an awesome tool but is too much for me. Tomorrow I'll run it in WinXP PC and will try to relay the results to you. Should I open the View All Problem Reports?
-
I slide the bar and see what all has a red X and check [single click] them out.
The all problem reports may a good place to start.

Train,
Yesterday I opened perfmon /REL in Win7. Today I opened it in sick WinXP - the Monitor there is different: it shows only current activity. It displays three graphs: Memory, Physical Disc and Processor, there are no red X signs or exclamation points.
So far I could not find past history.:(
-
And I do not have a XP machine available. Sorry!!
-
There are 3 Logs; Counter Logs (apparently current activity), Trace Logs (blank) and Alerts (red !) - blank.
-
No reds is a good thing.
Try revo uninstaller to get rid of Comodo.
Scroll down and you will find the free version.

Thank you, Train.
My impression was that WinXP Monitor gives only current status - minute by minute.
I already uninstalled Comodo and many other anti-...programs. Not much changed.
-
Have you run Malwarebytes? Something tells me you may have a nasty.

I had. Now I uninstalled all anti-... programs, with the exception of CC Cleaner that did not find anything. I ran all anti-... programs before uninstalling them - nothing bad was found. Probably I can restore the PC and run Malwarebytes, if you think I should. I also have Hijack This, v. 2.0.2, which appears to be operational.
Of coarse, I cannot download anything, but I have an external HD, 30GB. Could it be of any help?
Merry Christmas!

Next item I would try. Go into device manager, NIC and remove it, reboot and test.
-
Pardon my illiteracy: is NIC= Network Internet Card?
If so, I could not find it in Network adapters nor in My Network Places. Please instruct.
