[RESOLVED] XP-Admin
If this is in the wrong section, please move.
I am trying to update Open Office. It get to the install part and it tells me it does not have permission, please log on as administrator. I am the administrator. Under users it has my name and computer administrator. There is one other use on my laptop, but he rarely uses it.
How can I get the program to finish installing if I am already logged in as admin? Thanks!
This is on my laptop.

Is this the only program you are having problems with, or do you get the same thing when trying to install other software?
-
This is the only program that I can remember having trouble with.
Thanks for moving to appropriate section, I was not sure where it went.

I didn't move it
Try going into the normally hidden default Administrator account, and see if you can install the program from there. At the Login Screen hit Ctrl>Alt>Del twice and you'll get a Windows 2000-style login box. Type "Administrator" for the username and whatever password was entered when Windows was first installed (if any). To get to the account in Home Edition you need to boot into Safe Mode first.

I had posted it in XP Forum and someone moved for me.
I just tried to download in safe mode after it downloaded and was getting ready to install, I got a message that said the Administrator has this computer set to prevent download of this file. What does that mean? I have Open Office, it just will not update due to the Administrator. I AM the administrator and I am logged on in safe mode as administrator. Any other suggestions?

Try right clicking on the file and use the Run as Admin option, sometimes this will work.
Even if you are the admin, and you pick your account in the run as option it could work.
I've had this work for me..

Thank you for the info. I am sorry I have had a family emergency and have been at the hospital the past several days nearly around the clock so I have not been able to try these suggestions. I have some free time later this evening or tomorrow so I will try them then and post back.

I uninstalled the program and re-installed with the update. It works ok now.
But I have a desk top icon that will not delete, says access denied. Will not let me move it. I looked at the properties, it is read only and I cannot change that either. This is the old icon and it did not delete when I uninstalled the other one.
Any other suggestions for getting that icon off my desktop? Thanks.

Try deleting while in Safe Mode.
If still unable to delete in Safe Mode,

It would not delete in safe mode, but I did install the unlocker and got it to delete.
Thanks for the help.
