Acer one netbook

Have acer one netbook 532h-2789. When boots the acer logo flashes the goes to black screen with cursor blinking in upper left corner. This is a freind of grandsons and just trying to see what I can do. No dvd drive on it but does have usb. Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you can get into the BIOS, on the "Information" screen you should see a hard drive model number to the right of "IDE0 Model Name:" (and the hard drive Serial number on the next line down). If the BIOS doesn't see your hard drive, the hard drive has either become disconnected somehow (highly unlikely), or, the hard drive is dead and needs to be replaced.

Let us know what you find out and we'll take it from there . . .



To get into the BIOS on my wife's Acer Aspire One A0751h netbook, I started tapping the [F2] key immediately after I turned it on.

While you're in there, (the BIOS), you can setup what you want it to try and boot from, including various USB devices, on the "Boot" screen|tab.

Done that, yes it sees the hard drive

That's a good sign.

Next step would be to run the hard drive maker's diagnostic utility.

Download the following and burn it to CD. It has the hard drive diagnostics as well as many other handy utilities. You don't need to boot into Windows to run them. Just boot up with the CD in the drive and select the utility that you want to run:

If you aren't sure of the make of drive that is installed use the Seagate Seatools, or Hitachi Drive Fitness Test utilities, as they will work with any make of drive.

Dont have a cd just usb . I think the mbr might be damaged. If I could make a bootable usb with dos to repair the mbr it might work

Dos this netbook have Win7 on it? If so, here is how to put the OS on a USB drive so that you can reinstall or use the Recovery Menu:

My wife's doesn't have one either. Bought her a CD/DVD burner that attaches via two USB 2.0 ports, (for $29.99, including shipping). Works great ... including booting from it.

Yep I made a bootable usb windows recovery alreaday. Went to command prompt and did the fixmbr thingy. Now it boots but keeps rebooting ask to repair startup or go to windows normally. tryed the normal thing once and no go so doing the repair start up thing right now,will let you know the status soon

Once you get it back up and running, recommend making a complete backup.
