[RESOLVED] No Access To The Internet

Windows XP Pro
Service pack 3
Dual core Intel D 920 2800 mhz
1 gig memory
Network adapter Intel (R) Pro/100 VE network connection
Intel D945GTP motherboard

What happens is that the computer recognizes the network adapter and loads the Intel driver. The icons appear on the tool bar momentarily then disappear. I cannot connect to the internet with Internet Explorer or any other way. The version is 7. If I go into systems it says the device (Intel Network adapter) is working. There is also a router on the computer and the lap tops are able to use the network on the computer. The icon for Windows updates comes on and it tries to load Internet Explorer 8 but it doesn't load. I have tried disabling the device in system and restarting the computer with the same results. I also tried putting in a Ethernet card and the drivers load but the same thing happens. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info.

Your internet connection is just fine.
It must be something else, which causes IE issues.

To start with, I suggest you use working computer and USB flash drive to transfer Firefox installation file to this computer and see if Firefox will work.

Firefox loaded fine. After several attempts I finally got Internet Explorer 8 to download. I'm not quite sure what I did to get it to do that. But, interestingly enough, Internet Explorer 8 does not show up in the add/remove programs. So thanks for the advice!
