we have an elitebook 2540p that is connected to a docking station and an external monitor. about once a day the external monitor will 'lock up' and display all different types of 'artifacts' (bits of spreadsheets, emails etc). do you have any suggestions we might want to try to correct this issue? thanks!
What steps do you have to take to unlock it?
You might start a log file and jot down the things you were doing right before the lockup. Maybe you'll find a common denominator.
i was just made aware of this issue today. at first i tried a couple cntr-alt-del presses but that didnt do anything so i undocked it and the laptop was behaving perfectly.
so i checked all of the display and external display properties (all of which seemed normal). wrote down the gfx chipset and driver info and then plugged it back into the docking station with the 'lid' up. the external display was putting up blackbars on the top and bottom (normal im guessing because of the resolution of the laptop display). when i shut the lid the external monitor resized itself and displayed the non-optimal resolution. when i changed it to the optimal resolution (which im guessing is a function of the external display and not the gfx chip) it was a bit too small for the user so i changed it back down.
i suggested to him, that until i (we) figure this out i thought opening and shutting the lid on the laptop should allow him to have at least a non-reboot working option.
