Toshiba U500/018
I saw one of these advertised (australia) for $945 usually $1785, so as i need new one i checked it out on Toshiba web site.
It specifically says this model is "Touch Screen" as with all U500 models.
I went to the store and they said it is not touch. I had the salesman get toshiba up on the net an look at the specs. He read touch screen.
He tired to 30 minutes to get touch working and could not.
I read the manual and can"t see anything about touch.
There does not seem to be a fn + for touch.
Can anyone shed some light?
Touch or not?

Well after searching myself, everything points to it being a touch screen model. I wonder if it is possible that you have got hold of an earlier version there that didn't have the touch-screen. Annoyingly, some makers are prone to do that, where they add (or remove) features, but keep the model number the same.

Good point. When i talked with the salesman he initially told me the one i was looking at was not touch but the earlier model was. Then i had him look at toshiba web site and he had to agree it was touch.

It should be touch screen but I am surprised it was not. So, far I know they only have one touchscreen model by this name.

All the advertising pointed to touch, but it is not. There are 4 u500 models only 1 is touch. I bought it presuming touch even toshiba web site said touch. When i found it not touch, i made a big noise to toshiba. I emailed first. Then phoned . Mysteriously toshiba web site on the model had changed between the email and phone call.
APC magazine had also changed their web site.

That is very naughty indeed
Over here, you would be entitled to a refund.

Just a thought, it's possible that those pages may have been archived:
