[RESOLVED] Malware Present?
Hi Folks,
Have had an infected machine in my possession to clear up some malware:
Win XP Home SP3
Athlon 64 CPU
1 gig ram
Originally had an infection called “System Tool” , which I think/thought I’d cleared with Malware Bytes, Super anti spyware, Spybot S&D, ad-aware. Since I thought I’d cleared it, the PC owner has asked me to install Norton IS 2006 (yes 2006) a brand new unregged version and I’ve also installed SpywareBlaster and FFox as preventative measures.
Anyway, current issue is:
While both IE and FFox will both open and go to the correct homepage, and both will go to the specified page when typing the correct URL address in the address bar, problems occur when doing searches.
Basically if any search results links are clicked on, the browser (both IE and FFox) will go to random sites which appear to be mainly shopping orientated! This seems to come and go at will, I had turned off system restore on all drives prior to scanning/attempting fixes.
So, since I am not confident that the PC is clean, I’d appreciate if you guys could advise based on the logs.
Many thanks
