PC guy seeks MAC help
Maybe there are better MAC forums, but I'm a strong believer in Virtual Dr.
First of all..........
I know absolutely nothing about MACs
except they have an apple image on them. LOL
I work for the Salvation Army, and I often work on donated PC's to get them in shape for resale.
Today we received our first MAC laptop. I don't have the model No. at this time, but here is what's going on.
I turn it on, I get a reddish screen, in the middle of that screen is a small square image of a folder with a black question mark in it and then it changes to a small folder with the profile of a man's head. It just continues to change back and forth from question mark to head.
I spoke with a guy who said years ago he owned a MAC, and he said this has something to do with what he called "rebuilding the drive" or words to that effect. He could not remember the specific terminology. He said there was a key combination that would begin the "rebuilding" process. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Any help from you guys of course is always welcome!
I guess for the near future I hope to learn something about these strange machines from you guys! :0]
Thanks in advance

I have not seen the mans head thing but the folder with question mark in it means there is a hard drive problem and should be replaced. Your best bet would be to take it to a apple repair centre and have them take a look at and what the machine would be worth fixed. Go in your uniform and they may give you the info for free or fix it for a small fee. If you can post a pic of the machine i can guess how old it is and if it's worth even the trip to a mac repair shop.

Is this any help?

P.S. There will be no money spent on this at all. If it's found to be damaged beyond our repair capabilities, it will get the old heave-ho :0]

PowerBook G4 667MHz, 800MHz, 867MHz, 1GHz 15" (A1001)
Tiger was released to the public on 29 April 2005 and no new security updates.

Looks like heave-ho time to me.
