[RESOLVED] Unable to Boot from Sleep

I presume this is a Windows 7 boot issue rather than a hardware issue, so I am posting here. THe computer encountered an error while "resuming" from sleep and now after I get the bios screen, I get a screen with 2 choices: (1) Resume from last resume point or (2) Delete resume and proceed to Boot Menu. Unfortunately, the system will not recognize my keyboard at this point in order to select the choice with the arrow keys or even just the "enter" key.

I have tried several different keyboards and each connected to the PS2 port and to a USB port, but the keyboards are not recognized. I have confirmed that bios recognizes the keyboards, because I can enter the Bios setup screen and make changes, but after I leave setup and move to the boot screen, the keyboard ceases to be recognized.

I can boot from the CD with a Macrium Reflect Rescue disk, but unfortunately ( and I know better) I have no recent backups. I could try restoring the system partiion, but the backups are from the intital OS and software installation and I will have to reinstall all the other software installed since I setup the computer. This would be my last resort if you guys don't have an idea how to get past this.

Divergent Species--In Power Management, set sleep to Never and rather use Hibernate.

Thanks SuperSparks & Welshjim. I tried getting the system to boot from the Windows CD, but it kept coming back to the same option screen and ignoring the CD. Finally I took the MB battery out to reset bios, made sure the USB mouse / keyboard options were enabled and I was able to get past the option screen to boot normmaly. I still have some issues, but I can at least boot and shutdown normally. What I did should not have fixed it, because even if the USB KB / Mouse options somehow got reset and were causing my original problem, the use of the PS2 KB / mouse ports should have worked. In any case it is now mostly working and I will make sure I have do a more current update.

Welshjim, I have had continuous problems with power management with this system as 95% of the time a shutdown leaves the disk and fans spinning - I have to hold the power button in for 5 secsonds to get a complete shutdown. I have tried all sorts of different power managemebnt options to no success. It seems several Gigabytes MBs of similar type have this problem and I have yet to find a fix from MS or the internet and just live with it. At some point I may just replcae the MB.

BTW, I think you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS Setup so that it boots from the DVDROM drive first and then the HDD.

Thanks for the followup suggestion. The Boot order has always been CDROM, then HD. However, the MB always asked that you confirm the boot from CDROM by hitting any key when it detected a CD/ DVD in the drive. Apparantely, the KB became disabled or unrecognized at or before this point in the boot sequence so I could never confirm the CD boot. I would then get the option screen to which I referred.

Much of the symptoms and the actions to fix the issue don't seem to make sense. In my many years of working with computers, this goes into the don't have a clue problem / solution column, which I find happens occassionally with computers. :confused:
