my pc and lap top both have eSATA connections so i was wondering if i could transfer data from one to the other? I have an eSATA cable but don't know how to transfer things across.
any help would be appreciated.

eSATA is not designed/intended for networking.
so i can't do it then? i thought it might be able to just treat the lap top as an external drive.
guess i will have to go back to Ethernet :(
Unless you are transferring really huge files, you won't lose much performance using Ethernet anyway. If you are transferring huge files regularly, invest in a gigabit Ethernet switch (all modern PCs should have a gigabit NIC installed already). With gigabit Ethernet you can transfer files as fast as the SATA connection would allow.
