Slipstreaming
I have a Dell Inspiron that I believe the SATA hard disk went on it (wouldn't accept doot disk and would only format to 99%).
I switch it out with a the SATA drive from an broken (screen) ACER. I know that I need to slipstream a install CD with the Dell SATA controller driver on it. I went onto the Dell web site and they have my driver but it's an .exe file and nLite, the program I'm using to slipstream it, only takes .inf files.
Is there a solution.... workaround?

you would need to extract the .inf from the exe file in order to use it in nlite.
Did you just look at the SATA options in the bios? If you set it to IDE compatibility mode (NOT AHCI), you shouldn't need to add the controller drivers.

No, I didn't check that.... I'll try that first and then go with the extraction.... thks

Thks Mk....
Worked like a charm.
Loading drive now.
Question.... After I get the drivers loaded, do I change it back to AHCI or leave it as it is?
-
Leave it as is...
AHCI is not natively supported by WindowsXP anyways.

What Shinma said. If you change it after the fact, you will get a BSOD
