Tried to open file with Adobe Reader 9

I downloaded software called "Forumfinderbuzz" but could not open the 'skin' file. I think it was a .csv file? I received a message that it said: Windows is unable to open this type of file. Would you like to: automatically find it on the web, or do it manually. I can't remember the exact words. I was very clever and said I wanted to do it manually. One gets a few options and I chose Adobe reader. Now all the skin files have a little red icon in front of them. I get the following message when I try to open it: Adobe Reader could not open 'Ampix3, skin' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example the file was sent as an email attachmente and was not correctly decoded)
I posted a help message to the forum of the site where I got the software, twice, but received no reply, yet. I am in kind of a hurry to get this working.
Is there anyway I can undo this? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanx.

I use Windows XP professional version 2002 Service Pack 3 on my computer with DSL internet connection.

You need to remove the .csv file association from Adobe Reader.

zinzani--Change the association to Excel. Or Notepad might work.

Hi Jim, thanx for the reply. I tried to open it with Excel, but get the message: cannot open the protected file. So I suppose it is protected with a password?
Notepad didn't work at all. It just gives me a lot of hieroglyphics.

zinzani--I am surprised Excel does not work. How did you try to open using Excel? Right click on the .csv file|Open With and pick Excel out of the offered programs. (If Excel is not offered click the "Default Program" line.
If that works, repeat that procedure from scratch and this time check the box "Always use the selected program..." at the bottom left.
I assume you are using Excel and not ExcelViewer.

Hi Jim, thx again for the advice. I did exactly as you said, (a few times) but it still won't open and yes it is Microsoft Excel. I still get the message: unable to open protected file.
I suppose I'll just have to keep on trying IMbuzz support and see if they can help. (That's where I got the software from.)

zinzani--Ah! A protected Excel file. Well, I have no experience with them, but perhaps the following will help

Have you right clicked on the file, then Properties to see what the actual file extension is?


I also know nothing about IMBuzz except what I get from Googling. It seems strange they would offer to download protected files without instructions as to how to open. However be aware that Web of Trust (WOT) feels opening files from IMBuzz may give you malware. I gather IMBuzz offers software for you to "relabel" and presumably sell to others.

I right clicked on the file and then properties, just now. It says at the bottom: this file comes from another computer and might be blocked to protect this computer.
There is an option to unblock it. Should I do that or rather not? I do not want to jeopardise my computer.
And yes, you are right about IMBuzz and the rebrandable software. They also give a person a complete step-by-step plan on how to setup an internet business.

zinzani--Frankly, if I were you, I would not go any further with IMBuzz unless you are prepared to go through potential malware infection and cleanup.
But if you want to proceed, yes "Unblock". However, I doubt this has to do with your problem. You should try the fixes links in my earlier post.
Also you did not report the file extension. When you are in the Properties window, there should be a line near the top saying "Type of file".

Hi Jim, about the type of folder: where it says 'type of folder' it just says 'info'.
Thank you kindly for all your help, but I have decided to take your advice and not continue with ImBuzz because I really do not want to take a chance and mess up my computer.

zinzani--Good choice. The fact that Type of File is not given is another strike against it.
