Router lights
I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with a hardwired WRT54GL router. My computer is the #1 light and the other computer is #2. Both lights stayed on when the computers were off. I just had to reformat my computer and now when both computers are off the #1 light goes out and only the #2 light stays on for the other computer. When I turn the #1 computer on the light comes on and goes out when I shut it off. Anyone know why the #1 light won't stay on when the computer is off?

If the computer is completely turned off, then yes the router light will turn off.

If I turn the power off to the router for about a minute and then turn it back on, both lights burn until I turn on the computer and shut it down again, then # 1 goes out. Shut power off to router turn back on and both lights burn. It started doing this after I reformatted.

Your nic, as long as it is powered is causing the light to stay on.
I have disabled Wake on Lan in my BIOS.
But as the light business seems not to be hurting anything, I would not worry about.

I guess it's OK but I'm the type that wants to know what changed to make it stay out, when before I reformatted it was staying on. It's a good learning moment for me to find the problem. I have to keep this 73 year old brain active.

I suspect it is a subtle driver or configuration change that causes it. I have noticed the same thing happen with our setup, where a reinstall makes the router lights behave differently. It's absolutely nothing to worry about, as Train says.

The light could be related to some kind of WOL feature. It's a really minor issue, especially if you don't use WOL. As long as you can access the Internet and your network, don't fuss with it.
