Add expandable users folder in Windows Explorer favorites?

I've added my user folder to Favorites in Windows Explorer. However, when I do that, it does not show up as an expandable folder. i.e., I'd like that folder to also have the little triangle next to it so I can expand in the navigation pane. Can this be done easily?

Are you talking about while looking at the favorites from Win Explorer or your browser?

If Win Explorer - putting the folders inside another folder will give you the triangle on the first folder.

Windows explorer. Not sure what you mean about putting the folders inside another folder. What I did was navigate to C:\Users\Nick

I then did right-click -> Add current location to Favorites (or something like that). This put my folder within the Favorites in the Navigation pane. However, it shows up without the little triangle.

I can attach a screenshot when I get home if I'm not explaining this correctly.

Don't add the folder to Favourites, instead add it to a Library. You may as well use the features of Win 7 now you've got them :)

That could work too! I read through the link you gave but am unclear about something. They show how you can add subfolders under the picture folder in the library. But do you get the little triangle to let you quickly expand & browse the various subfolders without actually clicking on them?

Thanks! Were you able to add the User folder directly to the library? The only way I was able to get it was in its own subfolder. I suppose I could manually create a library with my username but then I'd have to manually drag any folder (including new ones) into it. What I was hoping for was a way for it to always show whatever folders I have under my username without any extra input.

I've attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to do.

A library will do what you want by default. If you click on the Library which you've called "Nick" it will open all of the contents of that library in Explorer when you click on it.

It does open the contents correctly. But is there a way to eliminate that double username library setup the way my screenshot shows? Like I said above, the only way I was able to get that would be to first create a library called Nick and then drag my individual folders to it. But that wouldn't automatically capture new folders I might create.

And when I dragged the entire user folder called "Nick" to the library, it would only work if I first created a top level library. Maybe I should rename that to Users! :)

I'm just not understanding quit what you are getting at here :confused: If you click on the top level folder, it opens all the contents of everything that is contained within the library. There is no real need to click the triangle to expand it at all, other than to see what folders it contains.

But there is no way of getting rid of the folders within the library, if you did, it would be an empty library that would display nothing :D

Maybe you're right. I need to explore (no pun indended! :) ) Libraries further when I get home this evening.

In a nutshell, what I was trying to is make it so that there is one entry under Library called "Nick" - then when I expand that, I get all my folders right there in the Navigation pane. Maybe it does this already even though it looks like a double folder setup.

It does indeed look like a double folder setup, but it works as a container where it's as if you simultaneously opened all the folders inside. It's become one of my favourite new features of Win 7 :)

Okay, trying it out - I must be doing something wrong. I still need two clicks to access my folders in the Navigation pane. When I start Explorer, I of course get the Library with Nick. But if I want all my folders to show up in the left side, I have to first open Nick with the triangle - then I get the 2nd Nick which then shows all my folders. How did you get that on a single click?

Maybe this is the part I didn't make very clear: I wanted the folders to show up in the Navigation Pane with just a single click (similar to the way XP Explorer does). I did see one way to get that through a registry hack but was hoping to avoid it if possible. :)
