Can anyone suggest a free-of-charge alternative to Windows Paint Program for Win XP, that is easy to use, for editing small jpeg/bmp files, other than DIA.

OneBigNewbie: I do a lot of photo editing and I have all the programs suggested here plus a few others. The ones I use the most is Paint.Net and PhotoScape. Both of these are free and fairly easy to use, but if you are looking for something easy as well as free, I really don't think you would want GIMP. GIMP is on the same level as Photo Shop and is the hardest photo editing program I have ever used in my life. I have had GIMP for almost a year and am still learning it. I have numerous videos and written tutorials and still have a hard time using it. I mostly use GIMP to make layered photos. I use PhotoScape about 95% of the time because it is not only so easy to use but there are many things you can do with it. I think one of the best benefits to me is that it is the easiest I have found to re-size photos with. You can not only reduce the size but you can also enlarge photos and one good thing about changing your photos is that it will save the original for you. Here is the download site, but also look around on the site and read all the features that it has:

Gypsy, nice to see you back again.
Irfanview is easy to use, have used it over 10 years for simple editing and resizing. I tried the Gimp recently and tossed it, for its complexity. www.irfanview.com There's also a forum for Q's.
For more complex editing, the program I use isn't free, PaintShopPro
IrfanView is ok but the interface is so dated I just can't get past it anymore. For basic photo editing, I now use free FastStone Image Viewer http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
If you want photo organization and basic editing, free Picasa from Google is also excellent!

MY MANY THANKS TO ALL YOU GOOD PEOPLE IN HERE.
I shall try Paint.Net, Irfanview, and PhotoScape.
Thanks foxy, but I have been back for a while, just not on this part of the forum. Many problems with a family's computer so I have been posting a lot on the forum lately-just not this part of the forum.
OneBigNewbie: I think you have made a good choice of easy and free photo editing programs. But can I make just one more suggestion. I don't know about you but a lot of times when I see the photos on my computer that I have taken, a lot of the subjects, (people and animals) have red eyes. There is one program I use for red eyes that is better than all the other programs I have tried. It is called,
S10 RedEyes and the link for it is:
http://download.cnet.com/S10-RedEyes...html?tag=mncol
I think you will find it fairly easy to use and it does a good job of removing red eyes.
Here's one more online paint program I just found today..
