Should I keep Windows Defender, if I am using Norton?

Using XP and Norton Internet Security.

If I do not run Windows Defender, I get a reminder that I have not run WD and terrible things are threatened. I know, because you guys yell at me all the time about it, that one should not have two antivirus programs.

Should I keep Windows Defender running, even though I am using NIS?

Are you using the 2009 or 2010 version of NIS?

Using WinXP Pro, I ran Norton AntiVirus with Windows Defender for several years and never had a problem or reminder other than updating WD. (I cannot remember the updating may have been automatic. You might want to look into Windows Defender settings for that.)
What is the source of the "Reminder"? (Look in the Title bar at the top of the reminder window.)

WD is not an anti-virus, so there is no problem with keeping it.

Defender is best (and actually pretty good) at alerting a user to changes in auto startups or things like changes to the HOSTS file. Otherwise, it's pretty much worthless.

IMO, I'd run something like free WinPatrol, set the Startup Programs tab monitoring to 1 minute and dump Windows Defender. WinPatrol actively covers more bases, uses less resources and besides that, it's cool!!! :D
