From WinXP Prof to Win 7 Prof?

Hi All,

Here's the skinny...
I'm currently using my own PC for work as well so I have their stuff loaded on it. Right now, the OS is Win XP Professional and they use Trend Micro and Office 2003.

I have two profiles - one as Administrator and one for work. For work, I use Outlook and for home I use Outlook Express.

I realize Outlook Express is going away (if not already) so my question is, if I do a fresh install (back up all my files before doing that), is there a way to import my Outlook Express files/folders into whatever the new email program is for Windows 7 Professional?

Also, considering I will now have to purchase Windows 7 Prof, anti-virus software (Trend preferably), as well as the latest Office (I need Word, Excel, Powerpoint specifically), can anyone recommend a good place to purchase all of these together?

How old is your PC? How much RAM memory does it have? Win 7 runs lighter than Vista but IMO, it still needs at least 2 GB to run smoothly. (I run a netbook with Win 7 on 1 GB and it's pokey.) Don't forget you can always upgrade to Windows Live Mail client (the next version past OE.) http://download.live.com/wlmail

If it were me, I'd stay with XP and migrate from OE to Mozilla's Thunderbird Email client. But that's me... :D

I think my HP desktop is probably 4 years old? I don't recall. As for RAM, it has 1.93GB.

I already have a Windows XP Professional OEM CD I purchased a while ago but I figured I should get the latest Windows product. Hmmm....

How about Office 2007? Any good deals on that?

You mentioned migrating from OE to Mozilla's Thunderbird Email client - can I actually migrate all my folders/email files in?

Thunderbird should be able to import your existing e-mail and contacts.

Thanks jdc2000. One more question - since it is licensed for 3 PC's, will it work on my husband's Windows 7 64-bit OS as well?

It should work OK on Win 7 64-bit.
