Seagate 1.5 TB FreeAgent Ext. Question

I’m running Vista Home Premium, SP2, Intel Core Duo 2,13GHz, 232 GB H/D capacity and 2 GB RAM. I also my cable band widths average 20,000 mbps during peak times. My video card is an nVidia GeForce 7600 GS. My monitor is an HD ViewSonic 20” VX 2035WM. My sound card is a Creative SB Audigy that’s about 2 years old.

I also have a Seagate Free Agent external. Does running the Seagate External all the time slow down my PC? Right now I’m about 16 -25% on CPU performance with it plugged in and only Outlook and Word are open.

Also, on I set a back up to for 4:00AM and will shut down my PC. I made a fake folder in my docs to see if it backs up Thursday AM. If so, will it just back up the new folder or back up My Documents altogether? I have to see if it can back continuously when plugged in but I can get that info from the Seagate support site.

I keep my USB hadd drives disconnected unless I am ready to back up. Also the means less chance of a error that may scramble that back too.

1 scrambled USB was more than plenty for me to learn.

On the Seagate, I don't see any message where it's safe to disconnect like I see on my SanDisk flash drive. I clicked on safely remove hard ware and didn't see a stop icon to click on like Windows explains.

I'll bet you the family farm a Mac backs itself up in case of a crash...LOL!
