[RESOLVED] Removed virus did some damage

Thanks to Broni for helping me in the other forum, my issue doesn't have a security issue related problem. But what I got rid of before (virus) I came here for help because it damaged something on my computer and I need to figure out how to fix this.

I'm running Vista on my laptop, 32-bit SP1. Note- I haven't done MS Updates in a while.

As of now, the problems I'm having that I'm aware of are the following:

-iTunes can not connect to the store. When I tried to download a more recent version 9.2 to 9.3, iTunes just locks up my computer now when I open it, and I am forced to shut down manually.

-Non of my AV programs will update, I have Avast as my active, and mbam and SuperAntiSpyware as my other programs. I do get error codes for mbam and superanti, if you want to look at them I'll post it.

-Windows Update gives me error: Code 80072EDF (I have googled this error but can't seem to match it the causes, solutions, etc to my problem)

-Safari and IE can not connect to the internet. (I do not use IE anymore so it's outdated big time, but I never open it so no use in updating)

That's all I'm aware of at the moment, I tried to Google each of these problems individually, but still can't figure this out! I have came to a possible conclusion, the virus may have got to some vulnerabilities from some outdated software I have, (Java, Adobe Acrobat, etc) and messed up something from there. Not sure! Also, I'm curious if I restoring to a date before, can fix it?

You might want to check out your HOSTS file to make sure that is not the cause of the blocked sites.

You could try it, but if your DNS Server is currently set to Obtain Automatically, and an "ipconfig /all" command returns the correct IP address values for your ISP, then it probably won't fix anything.

Hmmm, yeah it is checked to that right now. If I did try it and it doesn't work, I can just put it back to Obtain Automatically with out any conflicts right?

(edit)Ok, tried it and it did not work. So I guess that's not the issue.

Any other things I can check?

I fixed it! Wow, I'm kind of in shock right now, I went threw all this trouble just to uncheck a box. Wow. I'm guessing the virus messed this up? I don't know.

here's what I did(found it off another forum)

Go to the control panel, then to internet options, and then to the connections tab. Click the LAN Settings button and make sure all three buttons are unchecked. (I had the bottom one checked which stated: Use a proxey server for your LAN)

I'll mark as resolved in the morning just to make sure everything's going smoothly. I am now going to take a nice warm shower to rid of my frustration.

And thank you Broni again for helping me scan my computer and what not, gave me a sigh of relief that the virus isn't still wandering around in my computer:D It's funny how one wrong click can lead to a whole mess of trouble. Also note that my iTunes is still broken, I have not opened it again because I'm waiting to make sure I won't lose anything when I force shut down (if I have to).
