ATI Crossfirex problems/Disabled Adapter

Hi, I recently built a computer with the following:
MA790X-UD4 Motherboard, AMD Phenom II X4 940 CPU,
4 GB RAM, Windows XP Pro 32bit/SP3, and 2 ATI 5770HD Video Cards.
I'm using the Catlyst Crontrol Centre (CCC) version 9.12.
I've got the cards bridged (I used both bridge connectors, hope thats right?)
When everything was loaded CCC came up and said there was 2 GPU's would I like to enable Crossfire. I clicked yes and it says its enabled. However when I'm in CCC and look under graphic hardware it shows a Primary Adapter and a Disabled Adapter.
How do I get the second working? I didn't think it would be this hard!
I ran 3DMark and it said no linked adapters.
Is there something I've done wrong?

This is a bit outside my experience, but from what I can find out you need to reboot after enabling Crossfire before the settings will take effect.

I did reboot, several times since enabling crossfire.
I ran GPU-Z and it shows both cards but one is using 100% GPU Memory and the other 4%.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Just thought maybe someone might be able to help me.

Try swapping the cards themselves. Or try one bridge. I'm guessing cause I don't do crossfire.

I swapped the cards around and tried just one bridge.
No change.
Any help would be appreciated. ATI's help centre is closed for the holidays.

Have you checked each card installed individually, to make sure they are both working?

I tried a couple things:
I went in to the Bios and changed the "init display" to PEG1 and plugged my monitor in to the bottom card. Everything booted up properly and it still said 'Disabled Adapter" but now the bottom card was the Primary Adapter.
I switched it back in the BIOS to PEG and plugged back into the top card and booted up OK. Now the top card is the Primary Adapter and the Disabled Adapter is still there. for the other card. Could it be that the other card only kicks in when needed. I certainly don't need it at my desktop screen.
By the way I'm running 1680x1050 resolution.
I treid SuperSparks idea and tested each card separately. They both work fine.

I just was in the CCC and in ATI Overdrive. It gives you temps, activity etc.
It shows both cards. The Primary One or top card is running 39c and 9% Activity.
The Bottom Card or the one that is "Disabled" is runnig 45c and 99% Activity.
This all seems kind of weird. Thats a lot of activity for a "Disabled Card"
