Since just about everyone at our favorite board uses IrfanView because it's the best, there's a new release Ver 3.36 - which you can get at:

If you're into digital? Got a few of those messed up shots? check out the free tools here. they have a skin enhanser, an image dehanser, a camera immitation and a filter simulator. a little shy on accuracy on the slide bars but infranview works well with the finished product.

I've been using v3.36 for about a week now... same great program. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
My favorite new feature of this version is being able to use a custom background color instead of black which was annoying at times with images that had lots of black.

Thanks very much for the tip. I like Irfanview very much and would like to upgrade my Irfanview ver 3.30 to 3.36. Do I have to delete 3.30 first or can I just download 3.36 over the top?
Also I have forgotten which download version is recommended, the zip or self-extracting (or is that a matter of choice? I'm not too hep on using zip apps). Thanks in advance for any advice.

Does the new version still steal away with all your icons and replace them with that annoying red thing?
I hated it when Real Player did that with one of their versions, but not anymore. So maybe I-V will stop the practice too. I like to know what see what files I have and not see the little red sucker show up on every file it can work with.
In other words, I have the previous version on floppy, but I don't use it. I use a program that came with the HP printer software.
I dl'd the self installer and it just instantly installed over the old version in Program Files without a problem. No icon associations were changed (I didn't check any); it kept the old Irfan associations I had configured before for a couple of odd file types.

Thanks for your quick replies Ghouldini and Rog. I downloaded the self-extracting over the top and it worked just fine like you said it would. I agree with you Ghouldini about that awful "red devil" icon all over the place. I had already gotten rid of them in version 3.30 and they new installation left them "as was".
Thanks much again for your help!!! VirtualDr is a great site because of guys like you.
