VMware Workstation 7 first look
I've been using this a few hours now and am favorably impressed. They've managed to solve all the bizarre networking problems that came with version 6.5.x running on Windows 7 as the host. It now works as easy as it did with XP as the host.
NAT works perfectly now, you no longer have to run ICS on your Win7 internet card. That little problem made it a big deal to switch from one network to another. (for instance, wireless to ethernet) Both VM Workstation and each VM needed to be reconfigured for it to work. Now, with WS7, you can switch networks and you don't have to reconfig anything.
And the included VMware Player, which can be downloaded separately for free, is now a total package. It'll now setup and configure the virtual disk, and install and configure a VM from whatever source you're using. (CD/DVD or ISO) So, for the home user, VM Player is really all you need.
Anyway, I haven't run into any complaints yet, everything is working better than expected. If you're using VM's and you're running Windows 7 as the host, this new version is the way to go.
