Laptop Issues
I am not sure if this is the correct forum, if not please move or tell me where to post.
I have a Westinghouse NB14W2 laptop. The fan has gone out in it and I am having a hard time locating another. It is a Bisonic DC Brushless Blower Model BP501005H10 (5 v .39A).
Any idea where I can purchase one? Is the laptop just toast without it or is there another way I can cool the laptop if I cannot find a fan for it? Actually I think the laptop is actually made by Uniwill for Westinghouse. I have contacted them but no response yet. I have also contacted several suppliers and nobody has this type fan.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Take the fan out and check you local computer stores, the replacement can be another brand. Just so long as the voltages and the physical size and connections match.
-
You could also browse through the fans at www.frozencpu.com to see if they have anything close.

Thanks guys for the info. I sent a request to frozencpu to see if they have one and I will take it out to see if it can be matched locally.

I got a new fan direct from Westinghouse. They had one they just gave to me. However the laptop is stll over heating. That fan does work, I can feel the air coming out of the vent, but I can also feel heat on top of the laptop and it will shut down. I also have the laptop sitting on one of the laptop fans.
Any idea what could be causing it to over heat event ho the fan works?
Thanks.

Did you remove the heatsink?
Sounds like the thermal paste may need re-newing.
-
Would that be the shiney piece of tape that was on the fan?
-
NO.
Can you attach a picture of the fan assembly?
Because the heat sink can be mounted to the side.

Here is the pic of the fan assembly and heat sink over the processor. We simply replaced the fan assembly, the heat sink was never removed, just unplugged the fan and put the new one in. There wasn't any heat sink paste on the fan and doesn't appear to be any between the heat sink and the processor. BTW, the replacement fan seems to be operating properly.

OK, the fan blows into the heat sink.
Used canned air to clean the heat sink after removing the fan assembly.
-
My husband has already done that. He cleaned out everything with his compressor.

I hope he had a water filter on the compressor!
Other than removing the heatsink and , cleaning up the old thermal compound and applying new, then see how that acts, is about all I can come up with now. :(

Ok I have figured out it may or may not the cooling issues. I booted up this morning and it got to the user screen and I tried to click on my name, it froze and shut off, totally black screen, just as it has been doing and I thought it was overheating. It had shut down before when it was a little hot. It had not been on long enough to get hot when it shut off this morning. So any other ideas as to what may be causing the shutdown issue? Also after it has shut down and I boot it back up, all log in/passwords that are saved have been cleared off, almost like it has deleted cookies and cleared everything out.Thanks.
