COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

my laptop is an HP, which in one of my other posts HP isn't planning on releasing windows 7 drivers for it .... NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY AN HP
PRODUCT ... I went to the HP site and downloaded some of the newer drivers for my video and a few other things ... then downloaded the windows 7 upgrade advisor (not the beta one) and re-ran it ... I am now being told that the
NVIDIA NFORCE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER needs to be updated and that there is an UPDATE for it ( it doesn't say go to the windows update site and download driver ) and for the life of me I can't find it ...

the video adapter in the laptop is a Geforce 7150M / nForce 630M

I have been to the nvidia site and there is a BETA driver available for this video adapter but I really don't like using beta stuff, and I'm not sure if a new video driver will solve the issue with the NFORCE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER

all I seem to find on the NVIDIA site is GeForce Go (for notebooks) but my adapter doesn't say Geforce Go ...it just says Geforce .... and right now, I am so confused ...

before installing windows 7 I want to make sure that I have in place to avoid a lot of headaches ....
could someone PLEASE help me with this ... and let me know where I could go to find this NVIDIA NFORCE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER ( I have no idea what it is ) and I'm getting ready to throw this laptop on the driveway and back the car over it ...

thanks Welshjim ... before posting, I have already been to the 2 links you posted .... the only driver on the first link is a BETA driver and I'm not sure what to do and if that will solve the NFORCE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER issue .... all the windows upgrade advisor said was UPDATE AVAILABLE and it didn't tell me where to go ... I can see this whole windows 7 thing turning into a nightmare only because I'm dealing with an HP product ... all I wanted to do was try the windows 7 RC, work out all the bugs and then purchase windows 7 ... this laptop is starting to look better by the minute on the driveway with the car on top of it ...

I suspect nVidia just got behind in developing the drivers and will have them shortly. They are a good company and, don't forget, Win7 is theoretically out only today.

Simply an idea ...

Pop a new 160GB hard drive in the Laptop ($49.99 including shipping) and install Windows 7 on it.

• If it works, reformat the old hard drive and stick it in a USB/eSATA enclosure ($17.99 including shipping).
  
  
• If it doesn't work, reformat the new hard drive and stick it in the enclosure instead.

Either way you end up with:

1. Knowing if Windows 7 will work on your laptop . . . without destroying your current setup.
   
   
2. A small, handy portable external.

I wouldn't get concerned about the Upgrade Advisor reports, they are only a guide. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Win 7 will install those drivers anyway, as I think they are basically just Nvidia chipset drivers. But if it doesn't there are plenty of Vista drivers about and 99% of Vista drivers work fine in Win 7.

Have you tried installing the Win 7 RC yet?

I was all set to do the Win7 RC install until this system management controller thing popped up and I didn't know what to do ... you are right about it being the chipset driver ... I spent the entire day and night yesterday trying to figure out where to find drivers for this damn thing and I can't find anything ... you say not to concerned about the upgrade advisor reports, are they sometimes wrong ... on the HP site they only have the original chipset driver which is already in the laptop, NVIDIA has nothing that I can find ... the video adapter is

Geforce 7150m / nforce 630m

the only thing I can find on NVIDIA is a beta driver the Geforce 7150 and as far as trying to find something for the chipset ( which I'm assuming when you search you go to nforce and then select the series which is 6 ) ... the only thing under the nforce search is something for an nforce 630i but my adapter is a 630m ... everything else about the laptop is set to go for windows 7 ... is there really a chance that the upgrade report can maybe be wrong and everything will be okay ... while I was searching online for a solution I did find a couple other posts about this on different sites where people have run the upgrade advisor and they are getting the same message, but no solution and they are holding off on the install ... is it okay to install drivers outside of what HP has posted on their site ... just in case here is a link to the driver page for my laptop ...

when you go to the NVIDIA link and click on the supported products for the driver you will see that it says 630i not 630M .... apparently this worked for the person who made the post, but is it a good idea to do this since its obvious the chipset version is different ....

Odds are really really good that you're the first person in the WORLD to be doing what you're doing with the lappy you have. Have a feeling you either need to wait a year or two or be Brave/Bold and Adventerous and click on something.

:D I LOVE IT .... believe you me, I AM THE FIRST PERSON IN THE WORLD TO BE DOING WHAT I'M DOING ... I've got to be a friggin idiot .... and of course before the end of the day I am going to click on something :eek: ... I never should have run that upgrade advisor ... its funny, I ran the beta upgrade advisor a few days ago and it never said anything about this system controller thing ... then I decided to run the final version of the upgrade advisor and low and behold its telling me about this damn stupid thing .... there are other posts on the net about the same thing ... if I don't end up clicking on my head, I'll let you know what I do click on .... its gonna be one hell of a learning experience either way and maybe a good excuse to flush this laptop out from all the stuff that came preinstalled on it .... sorry for being such a pain with all this, but it really has me confused and aggravated ... maybe its time to call HP again and of course I'll get someone that I can't understand and doesn't speak a word of English ... if you have any other suggestions PLEASE let me know ... thanks a million for giving me a good laugh with your reply, I needed it ...
I think I stand a better chance of installing this by putting the power cord for the laptop in my mouth and sticking the dvd up my butt !

I really think you should just go ahead and install. Win 7 is very good when it comes to chipset drivers - it installed them all automatically for my latest build, with a mobo that's been on the market for under a year. That nVidia chipset has been around for a while, I'll be astonished if Win7 doesn't have the drivers for it.

And I remember suggesting this a few days ago too....If yoi install 7 on a blank drive and it doesn't go well, you can put your original drive back in in a few minutes...

Yeah, but where is the sense of adventure? Or terror even :D :D
