Does anyone have experience with ncleaner, please?

A friend of mine that is an IT professional in the R&D department at a large GPS manufacturer close to my home recommended this freeware:

I feel the need to get rid of Easy Cleaner by ToniArts, because I'm not using IE any longer and the only feature that I can't do on the browser page itself, and use with regularity is unnecessary files.
And....compared to CCleaner, it takes a looooooong time to do that.

Yes....I did a search 1st, with no results.

Does anyone in this Community have any experience with this program before I download it, please?

Well, I've never used it but I have picked up a little bit about it and have some fairly strong opinions on it (and programs like it...) :)

First, I run MalwareBytes on this PC in real-time. It blocked my surfing to nCleaner's website. Don't know why but not a good start.

Second, found a review at SnapFiles that warns to be very careful with it as it could cause some issues. http://www.snapfiles.com/opinions/nc...aner-2006.html But to be fair, Snapfiles does recommend it.

Third, if you are wanting to use it for automated registry cleaning, my recommendation is don't. Don't be fooled by marketing and/or so-called "experts" that claim regular automated registry cleaning makes things much better. It doesn't and I have yet to find any objective evidence that supports that position. The fact that these products exist is not proof that they always do good or are even needed.

Fourth, CCleaner has millions of downloads and users. It's about as safe as things get for this type of program. It may not be the fastest but it has a significant proven track record. That said, I am selective on what I have it clean. And I NEVER use it's automated registry cleaner. EVER!

And saving my strongest opinion for last, if you still feel the need to try nCleaner, be sure to make a full system image of your PC first. That way, if things go sour, you can restore your PC to life once again.

That kind of leaves me leary (for lack of a better word).

Regarding CCleaner...I use that when I do clean my registry and have yet to use the back-ups it can create, if you mess up your 'puter.

The one that the moderators on the Kaspersky forums recommends is Reg Supreme by Macecraft.

Don't ask me how (in the world) they got my primary email address, but I got an email from them last week that said they had gone....Free.

Maybe there was a link in that email that I deleted.

As far as registry cleaners go Macecraft has a pretty good comparison chart.

I think for the time being, I'll wait & see if a few other members reply.

Macecraft was formed by Jouni Vuorio, the originator of jv16 PowerTools. A few years ago, jv16 PowerTools was often considered one of the best free automated registry cleaners made. When Mr Vuorio found out that he couldn't make anything from donation-ware (no one ever donates), he went paid version only and formed Macecraft.

Within the last few months, he has once again made a free version available. It's called PowerTools Lite. And while he has a good reputation in this field, I still can't advise running it.

I have test scanned my PC with PT Lite to see what it can find. The first released version said I had all kinds of registry issues and gave me a low registry health rating (seems like it was under 15% if I remember correctly.) I installed the latest version today and now it says my registry is at 89%. Strange how I didn't do anything but I feel so much better!! :D

Take my results for what you will. I personally feel there is little point to all this. And the risk for potential problems is a good deal higher than if you do nothing.

As far as Macecraft's posted test, if you didn't catch it, they did it. So unfortunately, objectivity flies right out the Window.

The resident experts (if sought) are friendly,helpful and all over this site.

I'll call this a done deal & forget about ncleaner despite the rave reviews on snapfiles.
If you check further, most of the really good ones are 2) years old.

I know the advice I get here is honest and straight from experience.
No paid web $urfers (I'm aware of) at VDR.

Sometimes, less is more & that appears to be the case with this thread topic.

I can do most all the cleaning I need to do in Firefox and I'm sticking with CCleaner for my registry editor.....if I ever feel the need.
