I'm doing a computer back to factory install. It came with XP Home SP 1a. I have the disk for XP SP1 which will have virtual machine on it and SP1a does not. Can you install SP1 over top of SP1a?

XP SP1 which will have virtual machine -> I never heard of this?
Which one of the cd's came with the pc? I'd use that one to avoid a key code conflict.
I was doing a google on SP1 and on one hit it said SP1 had the virtual machine on it and SP1a didn't. I'll just stick with the install disk with SP1a.
here is where I read it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813926
That was because of a legal spat with Sun, so they removed it in SP1a. It shouldn't make any difference at all as far as an over-the-top install is concerned.
So basically the only difference between SP1 And SP1a is that, otherwise there the same.
Correct.
From the link you posted->Windows XP SP1a is the same as Windows XP SP1 except that the Microsoft virtual machine (VM) is removed in SP1a.
That's the conclusion that I came to. Thank You SuperSparks and Steve R Jones for your responses. Have a Great Day
