[RESOLVED] Device Mger shows too many IDE's

Self-built comp Win XP Pro
3 GHZ. 3 MB RAM
Mobo XFX MG-63MI-7109, 1 IDE (with CD-RW), 4 SATA (with HD)

I built this a few month ago. It's working fine, but I just noticed in the Device Mger 2 Primary IDE Channels, 2 Secondary Channels, 2 Controllers. Only one of each channel lists resources, but the controllers both list resources.

The Resource View lists just one IDE channel on IRQ 14.

Everest Home Edition has the same strange listing.

What would cause this oddity?

If you set your SATA ports to run in IDE mode, then it may show up as IDE rather than SATA in device manager.

I didn't set them, wouldn't know how. How would I check if the mobo came that way?

but Is there an advantage in having it set to IDE mode? I looked it up online, but didn't understand it.

Yes. You would need additional drivers if you run in AHCI or RAID mode. Most of the time you want to use IDE mode.

Don't know what AHCI is. I meant is there an advantage in running SATA in IDE mode instead of SATA mode? I have to check out my BIOS, but I don't know how to screenshot it.

Yes, I just told you. It doesn't require extra drivers during setup. You don't gain much using AHCI. Just leave it as is. It's not broke, so don't fix it.

AHCI = Advanced Host Controller Interface

IDE more or less means "IDE Emulation Mode" That way the hdd (s) works the way most of use prefer.

And some of newer mobos have 2 USB settings
USB 1.0 controller that is normally enabled
USB 2.0 Controller that some times is not enabled and needs to be.
