We are having trouble with Mozilla Firefox crashing, it will not even open, it crashes as it tries to open. It started with the update last week. We have uninstalled and re-installed, did a system restore, scanned, deleted cookies/history etc. and it still crashes.
Any ideas? Thanks!
We have Win XP, DSL, IE is the default browser, but until the upgrade of FF both worked.
Try the uninstall method outlined in this article on Mozillaine.

If I remember correctly you need to completely remove everything when you have a corrupted file on Firefox. Then do a complete reinstall.
But did you delete your PROFILE. Uninstalling Firefox will not delete the profile folder.Quote:

Thanks for the info. No I did not delete the profile, had no idea there was one, but will when I get home this afternoon. I will post the results.
Make sure to backup your bookmarks.html or places.sqlite first. Those are the bookmark files. You'll have to reinstall your addons.
Ok guys that did not work. There isn't a profile anywhere that I can find. I have deleted/uninstalled everything related to mozilla. Tried to download the program again and it crashed at startup. Any other ideas?
On another note, where can I delete a couple .dll files for programs that are no longer used? Avgse.dll & mbamext.dll. I found them but they will not delete.
If you are SURE you don't need those files (Avgse.dll sounds like a AVG antivirus file), you can try unlocker.

Did you run any antivirus/antispyware scans? Something is fishy if both IE and FF won't work.Quote:

Yes I do have that folder - but there is no mozilla or FF in there.
IE works fine but FF crashes at startup and has since the newest update from Mozilla. Yes I have ran the scans, the AV is updated etc.
What did you scan your system with? Weak stuff like Spybot or Adaware don't count. Malwarebytes or SuperAntispyware would be much better. I would go with Avira over AVG.
So you did a clean install of FF 3.5.2 with no addons? Did you try the portable version also?

I use Avira and have since 2007, but that part of the avg is still there. I did scan with SuperAntispyware. I must not know how to use the unlocker cause they dll's are still there and I get the same error message that disk is full and access is denied.
I have not tried the portable version of FF but I did a clean install and it crashed upon opening. Tried to get help from the chat at mozilla yesterday but the person was way to techincal and I did not understand what he wanted. Finally thanksed him for his time and left.
I also just found I have a tr/cryptzpack.gen. I have quarantined it but it pops up on occassion. The Superantispyware did not find it but avira did.
Install unlocker, right-click on the file you want to delete, then unlock it.

Portable FF does not work either. I have it on my USB drive and when I try to use FF it takes me back to the setup/install screen each time.
Portable FF is independent of the local installation. Did you extract it properly? You need to run firefoxportable.exe NOT firefox.exe.
Well I thought I did. I used the link above to get the portable app and replaced the old app I had. From searching around the net it seems lots of folks have the same problem, even tho it works fine on my laptop.
