I downloaded and installed CDBurnerXP to Vista 64 over the weekend. I was able to burn several ISO images, but when I tried to burn a data disk with multiple individual files, I either received CD not compatible or a burn error saying that the CD was not usable. My burner is a Samsung SH222A IDE DVD/CD burner. I also posted this on the CDBurnerXP forums, but in reviewing the posts, I see several similar posts, but no real solutions.
Anyone have any ideas?
What type cd are you using? -R, +R, RW?
Do you have a different type to try?
It is CD-R. I am at work at the moment, but I believe the brand is Imation. As I noted, CDBurnerXP had no problems burning this media as an ISO image. One would think that it should work with the same media to burn data files.
I have some Memorex CD-R I can try, but in all cases, they are CD-R.
In your experience, is CDBrunerXP, extra sensitive to the media brand, type or the burner manufacturer or firmware version?
I have not had much success with Imation CD-R's no matter what drive or software I used. Memorex CD-R's have generally worked OK for me, but others have had trouble with them. Verbatim or TDK CD-R's might be better.
I've never had any issues but I've always been XP and 32-bit. I bought a new Dell last summer with XP and it has always ran fine with CDBurnerXP.
One thought... Is the firmware for your burner at the latest version? Sometimes updates can cure oddities.
Imation I have gotten up to 24 out of a 100 pack to be bad right from the factory.
One look at the burning surface was all I needed to see they were defective.
Sure made nice whirly gigs though. :D Got my money back and then some.
I have not had any trouble with the Imations on any of my other burners, but one never knows as this is the first Samsung I have installed. I will try the Memorexx and see if it works. I will also check for updated versions of the firmware.
Thanks for the input as benefiting from others' experience is usually less painful than just winging it. ;) I will report back results.
I tried the Memorex media unsuccessfully and I checked for firmware updates. I found 4 different firmware updates at Samsung, but the included documentation gave no clue as to which one was the latest or most appropriate. Therefore, I took the low road and installed Burnaware and successfully burned data disks on the Imation media.
It is unfortunate the I could not get CDBurnerXP to work as I think it has a good interface and looks like a good piece of software. However, a perusal of their support forums indicates the issue I had is not an uncommon issue.
