Virus disabling burning rights in Nero Express 6
A couple weeks ago, I started up Nero Express 6 and was suddenly told that I couldn't burn anything because I needed admin permissions. Even though my PC only has one account in XP. I emailed Nero about it, and they sent me back an email suggesting that it might be a virus/rootkit blocking Nero.
So I did a full scan with AVG, which turned up a virus: win32/cryptor. It said that the infected file was located in a non-existent folder, and it was subsequently unable to remove the file at the end of the scan.
So I ran a Malwarebytes quick scan. It turned up "trojan.agent", and removed it. After a restart, I followed that up with a SUPERantispyware quick scan, which didn't find anything.
GMER, however, is showing a rootkit running as a hidden service with a lot of reg entries, with one entry pointing to a file "SKYNETunjedoic.sys", and other similarly-named files.
On a not entirely unrelated note, is there a better combination for safe internet use than AVG and the Windows Firewall, because I'm beginning to doubt the efficacy of both?
