I7 REMOVED---AGAIN
I have re-installed IE6 to replace IE7. Earlier this evening, 7 was causing all kinds problems with this machine I am now using at home. Could not surf, Ctrl>Alt>Delete was showing IE7 was using 99% of my ram and lockups. Rebooted, cleared browser cache and still got the same results. Started using 6 again for the umpteenth time and no more problems. IE6 is here stay on this machine. MS Updates immediately flashed me that I have IE7updates waiting. I waved it off with a "don't tell me about this again".

Sorry to hear about that. It was only recently that I upgraded to IE7. I was satisfied with IE6. But at least for me, IE7 is working good, and it is a little faster than IE6. I especially like the zoom feature in IE7...and the tabs are okay...but I have my favorite sites lined up on the tool bar, so the tabs are kinda redundant...at least for my usage.
I too, get frustrated with Microsoft trying to force the "latest but maybe not so greatest" IE version down our throats by putting it with the other regular security updates.
I like FireFox and also Opera, especially Opera, and both are quicker than IE, but bad habits are tough to break..:o...

Sorry to hear about your troubles. :(
For me, if it's IE 6 or 7 (especially 7!), I'd never consider IE. IE 8 is a breath of fresh air. Tabs, safety, layout, it's much better! MS is finally catching up to what Opera and FF have been doing for quite some time.
I know others have complained about IE 8. For me, I'm probably using it now 10 to 20 % of the time. Before, it was zero except for Windows Update...

Thanks for your condolences Arkansas Steve and HAN. I may entertain IE8 if 6 starts giving me headaches but it has always worked well for me but then, it is software. (IE 5.5 was absolutely the best browser I can recall ever using.) I have considered 8 but haven't ventured into that area. Don't know if I can jump to 8 from 6 or not. And even then, can I return to 6 as easily as I can from 7 to 6. Don't really know if anyone knows how a version of anything will work on their system until they try it !!!
