vista file sharing problems

at work i have a number of networked machines .. A (mine), B, C, etc. at intervals, i run a file sync program (SyncBack to be exact) to sync a file folders with my machine ... A>B ... A>C ... A>D .. etc. all machines are XP .. or have been.

machine B died and was replace with a vista-64 machine.

i have set up machine B to share files. the folder in question has been set to be shared as "co-owner". however, when i try to just access that folder (i tried to create a sub-folder) from machine A, i get the "access denied" message. the vista machine B has no trouble accessing any shared folders on the xp machine A.

i'm sure it's a sharing setting, but i'm at a loss as to what setting it is.

any suggestions or thoughts?

Does the Vista machine require a username/password at login? If not - try adding one.

no, it doesn't.

it's the owner's machine. he's fairly pc illiterate and seems to want to stay that way. as you can imagine, he would object to anything like a userid/password to login to his machine.

i have to do all this remotely from my machine because he's too busy to do any of it (including his backup).

Vista's new and improved security features like username/passwords....So it sure wouldn't hurt to add a password that you could later remove if it doesn't help.
