I have an iMac 24 inch and the OS is right up to date but I have a friend who is on a limited download quota of 500MB, not nearly enough to download all the updates. How can I copy my OS and update his OS?, I believe it is quite legal to do this but ,how to do it and are there any complications? He also has a similar iMac:confused:

You will download it to your machine it will be a dmg, burn that to disc and mail it off to them. Better would be to get them to come to your net and download it and any other needed stuff if they can onto there own mac.

It worked on a laptop running OSX5.1 but a desktop running OSX10.5 would not accept the disc
Not sure what you mean here mate did you mean they are both running osX 10.5.7 and the laptop runs the disc fine but the other machine doesn't like the disc? If that is the case it is a disc/drive problem. Either put it to a better disc or get them to get a external drive that will read what they already were sent. Hope that helps mate.
Sorry I could have put it better! The desktop was running OS10.5. and he got the message, that unable to install, maybe the jump from 10.5 to 10.5.7 was too great. I am attempting to help a friend 500km away in Tamworth

That's the one you need it's a combo update so includes all updates from the beginning 10.5 up to 10.5.7 i hope this sorts it out for you guys and sorry for the miss info mate.

Yes! He has OSX.5 and the update disc to OSX10.5.7 but when he try's to update he gets an error message, unable to update. Is the jump from 10.5 t0 10.5.7 too much for his 24inch iMac?
