For those who don't bother to read the fine print, this test was for detection of new viruses that had not been added to the anti-virus program's signature file.
Looks like the AV vendors are getting much better at this. Used to be that the techniques used resulted in unacceptable numbers of false positives.
Surprise! Microsoft was one of only four vendors to get the top rating.
I doubt the usefulness of most AV comparisons but this one seems to be an exception.
I agree that tests of anti-malware programs should never be taken as absolutes. But for basic comparative purposes, they have their place. For me, I have found the tests @ AV-Comparatives to always be educational. And I agree, the MS results were quite surprising. Especially with the knowledge that it will be changed from a paid program to a freebie later this year...
I have Comodo firewall and Avira. Comodo also has an anti-virus bundled with it's security suite. Do any of ya'll have any experience with the Comodo anti-virus and how it performs compared to Avira?
