Display Desktop

I started this in the Windows XP forum and since have run the HJT and have posted the results.

Under Control Panel - Display my Desktop Tab is not responding. All hte other tabs work fine. I have just re-installed Windows XP Home SP3. Any idea why this tab is not responding?

I had someone at my local computer repair shop re-install Windows. This was after a couple of hours trying to fix a sound problem. After everything failed that is was windows was reloaded.
So far I have run SpyDoctor and Superantisyware and nothing was found. I will run Malwarebytes and then Trend Micro and see if anything is found.

I ran Malwarebytes and it found a Heuristics issue. I saw that is was a desktop wallpaper I saved. It was an Explorer wallpaper with a small windows logo in the right corner and had a telescope over a map of the world in a beige color. I have deleted the jpeg I had saved and also deleted from Malwarebytes. I am running that scan again now. I have also saved a log from Hijack this.

Where exactly is that located?

Yes Spyware Doctor does have Antivirus. I am currently running Superantispyware. When that is complete I will run Spydoctor. In the mean time I checked the Display tab again and it still does not open but the other tabs do.

Where it all started.

It is located under Control Panel - Display - There are 5 tabs - Themes - Desktop - Screensaver -Appearence - Settings. The second tab (Desktop) is the one not opening up. I have to go to TaskManager to stop Control Panel after clicking on the unresponsive Desktop Tab.

Another way to get there is to R-click the desktop and select properties.

Now does that work?

The window opened up but the Display Tab still hangs up and all the other tabs were OK

In your dispaly above it is the Desktop tab where yoo would go to change your desktop to another one. You can also make it streched or tiled. You have the correct area. This is the only tab that is not working.

No, it is not missing. The tab is there, just not responding. I will try the link you sent and see what happens.

I tried the link you supplied and it did not work. I see it was actually to restore all of the tabs if they are missing. As I said, I have all of the tabs it is just that the Desktop one is not responding.
I do see when I have to end it due to lack of response it says

When I open up Display under Control Panel the Themes tab is the one it is showing. I have clicked on the desktop tab and it just sits there.

OK, While I was typing this it finally opened. What I discovered is that alot of my photos from My Pictures got into the list of available wallpapers. And since they are big files it must take awhile to load. So basically it is fixed. I need to remove those.
What I did see is that the usual wallpapers are missing from the list. Is there a way to resore those?

It appears that quite a few of my photos are incorporated into the desktop tab. When I click browse the file type is backround files. Under the Windows folder where the usual wallpapers are I do not see my photos there. The usual wallpapers are in the Windows folder. How can I get my photos out of this list?
